Maritime piloting involves assisting the ship’s captain by providing local expertise and experience to ensure the vessel’s safe passage from sea to port, performing maneuvers with or without tug assistance, within restricted areas surrounded by port facilities, in the shortest possible time and under optimal safety conditions. They maintain direct coordination with tugs and mooring teams, who also intervene during the ship’s berthing and departure operations. Piloting services are provided between the parallel of the Arzew islet lighthouse and the meridian 00°10' west. The Port Authority of Arzew also possesses a 750-meter-long inflatable floating boom equipped with accessories such as a motor pump, a disc skimmer, a hydraulic power pack, and a 5 m³ capacity tank.
